A clean vase
Start with a clean vase and fresh water to around 30% of its height, covering several centimetres of the stems. This is a starting point, not a limit: top up as needed.

A fresh cut
Use clean, sharp scissors to trim 1–2 cm off the stems at an angle. Remove any leaves below the waterline.

Refresh every two days
Replace the water and trim the stems every two days, sooner if the water turns cloudy. Check the level daily and wash the vase when changing the water.

The right spot
Choose a cool place with indirect light, away from direct sun, heaters and ripening fruit.
An arrangement in floral foam? Keep its structure intact and keep the foam moist by slowly adding water at the base. There is no need to remove or trim the stems.
Flower food or bleach?
Prefer cut-flower food and follow its label. Bleach can help control bacteria, but the dose depends on its concentration: never add it by eye. Use it only with specific manufacturer instructions for flowers. Never mix it with flower food, vinegar, lemon or other products.
